Today we came together to discuss our experience of Leicester as a Smart City. We explored what our experience has been of living in a city that is increasingly defined through Artificial Intelligence, data and information technology systems. We discussed the different ways that smart city technology is changing our expectations of transport, healthcare, education, governance, local democracy, and many more issues. The important question we wanted to address, was who is included in this process, who benefits from it, and how do we ensure that smart city technology is used responsibly?
Leading the discussion were Amrin Razzak , ZamZam Yusus, Bindu Jagatkant, Madina Ibrahim, who were joined by Prof Edward Cartwright, Dr Swati Virmani and Dr Ruben Martinez Cardenas.
This project is supported by The Alan Turing Institute, whose mission is to promote the understanding of the ethical and social issues arising from the use of data science and artificial intelligence. Professor Edward Cartwright of De Montfort University is leading the project, along with colleagues Dr Swati Virmani and Dr Ruben Martinez Cardenas of the Leicester Castle Business School.
